Meet Kristen..

So many people I come across are always so curious as to what brought us to baking and cake design.. so if you didn’t know.. now you do.. here’s a little bit more about the girls at GSS...

Meet Kristen...

I grew up in the small town of Estacada, Oregon. Yes, I was a country girl that grew up riding horses, involved in 4-H and sports year-round... nope, never had any interest in the kitchen unless it was sneaking chocolate chip cookie dough from mom's mixing bowl. After high school I chose to pursue my degree in Elementary Education at Western Oregon University. Three years later, after being completely enamored (maybe obsessed) with baking/pastry arts, I left teaching to follow my newfound passion and enrolled at Western Culinary Institute in Portland, OR. After a year of accelerated courses, I graduated with an associate degree in Patisserie & Baking, and moved here to Las Vegas for my externship at the Venetian. I spent the next three years working at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino as a chocolatier under Jean-Philippe Maury MOF. While there, I was given the opportunity to create a few elaborate chocolate showpieces, which were displayed at the Jean-Philippe Patisserie (in fact, I’m sure some are still there.. just look for sparkles and glitter!

In my spare time I was also decorating cakes for friends and family, and well.. after a few successful attempts at fondant, and countless smiles, oohs and awws.. I really just fell in love with cake design! With each cake continuing to let larger and more intricate... the space available in my home fridge was no longer cutting it. Not only was I needing more space, I was needing more.. period. I wasn't satisfied in a corporate pastry shop, and needed to do what I loved, but with my own style and vision. It became my dream to create a cake studio that brought something new, fun, and yes.. a little sexy here in Las Vegas.

So after months of planning and praying, I did just that.. I teamed up with my Miranda as co-designers, and Ashley as the paper/financing side, Gimme Some Sugar LLC was in business!

Next Blog... Meet Miranda.. and then Ashley!
